A need for Intercession and Intercessors
The words of Nehemiah the son of Hachaliah. And it came to pass in
the month Chisleu, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace, That
Hanani, one of my brethren, came, he and certain men of Judah; and I asked them
concerning the Jews that had escaped, which were left of the captivity, and
concerning Jerusalem. And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the
captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall
of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire. And
it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and
mourned certain days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven. -
Nehemiah 1:1-4
Oh, how we need intercession and intercessors in this time. We have
fallen into sin and are gradually drifting away from the presence of the Lord,
leading to the awful moral, social, economic, and health decline that currently
plagues us (Daniel 9:4-7). In the Bible text above, we see the same
thing ensue, but thank God a man was willing to stand in the gap for the Nation,
Jerusalem (Ezekiel 22:30).
Whenever a nation plunges into such a situation, God always looks for someone
willing to bear His heart for the people in that He wants no man to perish.
Nehemiah was ready to carry the heart of God for the people, and oh how the
Lord birth in him a vision that brought about the restoration of the Nation.
There are few things one can readily see in the life of Nehemiah that made him
the man the Lord used to bring about the restoration of the Nation.
Firstly, Nehemiah was a man of prayer, that when the report of the
Nation, Jerusalem came to him, he readily caught the heart of the Father for
the Nation. Once he saw the glimpse into the heart of the Father, he readily
accepted to be a vessel for which the Lord will bring about a change in that:
He sat down and wept, and mourned certain days (Looking at this
text, this must have been for up to 5 months, showing that it might take some
time), and fasted, and prayed before the God of Heaven.
Secondly, he was willing to give up everything for the restoration of the
Nation (He had a very high position at the time and could have thought about
what he might be losing to give himself for such a rigorous task). God honored
this by laying on His heart the vision of restoration and all provisions needed
for it. Nehemiah gave it all because he was dead to himself. He trusted that
the Lord put him in the position he was in for a time like this.
Perhaps the Lord is calling you now unto intercession I, plead
with you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to yield unto this glorious
calling, you can be sure that His grace will be sufficient for you. Be like
Nehemiah, take examples from his life. Yes, it might/will be filled with
suffering, but remember this from a hymn: "When we all get to Heaven."
that one glimpse of Him in glory will all of life toil repay. Maybe the Lord
put you wherever you are now for this purpose, I certainly can tell but, this I
certainly know that if you don't yield to this calling, the Lord will raise
someone else that will answer unto this calling, and you will have to answer to
Him on that final day of Judgement!!
