Jesus Paid It All

And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.

Colossians 2:13-14

In the beginning, when God created man, He created man in His image and gave all of His creation into his care (Genesis 1:27-28). Man became the caretaker of all of God's creation but, somewhere along the line, man lost the care of God’s creation after being tempted to eat the tree of the knowledge of good and evil (Genesis 2:17). Ever since then, man has been in debt and, it can be paid for only through death (Romans 3:23).

God in His infinite mercy made way for man to repay the debt through the sacrificing of animals in the Old Testament, which went on for a great while. This, however, was not enough to repay the debt that man had fallen into. No amount of animal sacrifice could equal the worth of God’s life in man (God’s life in man was what was lost on the day man fell for the temptation in the garden of Eden). For a debt to be paid, one needs to pay the equivalent amount of what the debt is worth.

Fast forward into the New Testament, God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son to us in the person of Jesus (John 3:16). For what purpose then did God send us His only begotten Son? He sent Him for the sole purpose of clearing our debt (Man lost God’s life in Him, and Jesus came to lay down His God's life for us to receive back into us God’s life). Praise God, Jesus paid it all for us on the cross of Calvary. We are now debt-free (Colossians 2:13-14). It does not stop there, He died on the cross, but God worked His mighty power by raising Him from the dead, Hallelujah!!!

We are now not only debt-free, but we have the highest form of life in us, the God kind of life (Ephesians 2:1-10). This is the greatest miracle in the history of the world, and bless God we are made partakers of such a great miracle, Hallelujah!!!

There is a hymn that talks about what Jesus did for us when He laid down His life. It is from the hymn titled: It is well with my soul.

My sin, oh the bliss of this glorious thought
My sin, not in part but the whole
Is nailed to the cross and, I bear it no more
Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord O my soul

Jesus paid it all. Are there any sins that burden you? Bring them to the cross of Jesus. He has paid for your redemption, sanctification, and glorification.  You are now dead to this world and, your life is hidden with Christ Jesus. And we know that on that day (His second coming) when He appears in glory, we shall also appear with Him (Colossians 3:4).

Oh, the joy of such glorious hope (Colossians 1:27b). My prayer for you is that the Lord will open your eyes to this hope and, through His Spirit in you, help to patiently wait for the manifestation of this hope, for we know that Hope in Christ never fails (Romans 5:5).
