A conversation between God and Man

A tender whisper, I hear, Intently I strain to listen Faintly I hear: I know and have called you by name; Before you were formed in your mother’s womb, I knew you.   I am He that created you I saw your unformed substance and weaved you with great care. Before the foundation of the world was laid, I chose you to be mine I have prepared good works for you to walk in. Sin separated you from me, but in my great love, I sent my Beloved to restore you. Now I long to dwell in you, become one with you that we’ll be together for eternity. You may be wondering how is all of this possible. I know it sounds unbelievable, but I need you to trust me. I got this. One more thing, my name is I AM THAT I AM. Ah, that name sounds familiar; could it be who I think it is? Yes, it is. I have just heard from the One that created all things. Who am I that He would take the time to speak to me?   He called me by name and told me He chose me from the foundation of the world.   That is too wonderful for me to co

The prayer of the righteous

Image
Glory to the Lord God Most High, the creator of the Heaven and earth. O perfect Father in Heaven, we thank you for your ever loving compassion towards us, you children. We draw towards your word today to draw the living water. Fill our hearts O Lord with your living water that will flow into eternity. We pray for those that do not have the access to your word as of now, that in your mercy you will send you word to them and if it pleases you, make us instruments to get the word across to them. We pray these all in the name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. ~ James 5:16b I am convinced that in this generation, little or no one truly prays as we ought, to the extent that prayer has almost lost its potency. It has become just one of those phrases we use: I will pray about it when in reality, you probably do not mean it. We have directed all our attention to other things aside from praying. Our society has conditioned

Walk before me

Image
When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless. ~ Genesis 17:1 Today we have one of the commands in the scripture that sets out the expectation of God from every believer, not just Abraham, who received it firsthand. Though it is a simple command, it is tough to fulfill because of the nature of our flesh but blessed be the name of the Lord that in the command itself, He provides the resource to carry it out. Let us examine this verse and see what the Lord will reveal. This verse came 13 years after Hagar bore Ishmael to Abraham. Ishmael resulted from Abraham and Sarah trying to help God fulfill the promise He made to them. At this point, Abraham had stopped believing in God for the promised child, convinced that it was Ishmael, but this was not God’s plan. Despite this mistake, God appeared to Abraham to rekindle his faith and entered into a covenant with him. Oh, what a loving God we serve that take

The cost of Discipleship

Image
Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me. ~ Matthew 16:24 Becoming a disciple of a school of thought or a master means letting go of your way of thinking or living to adopt another’s. That can be easy or difficult depending on your natural inclinations before coming across the school of thought or master. However, there is discipleship that will cost everyone that decides to follow because it is against our natural inclinations. Let us examine the invitation to become a disciple of Christ and the cost required. From the text for this session, the first thing to notice is that the invitation to follow Christ is open to your personal choice. Jesus says: “if any man would come after me.” in other words, you can decide not to come after him. Therefore becoming a disciple of Christ is not something you stumble across it is a conscious decision you make. If you call yourself a disciple of Christ because someone

Through the darkest night

Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him. Even so, I will defend my own ways before Him. ~ Job 13:15 One of the darkest nights in history was when Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane uttered the words: Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You  will  (Matthew 26:39) .  Jesus faced with the sin of the whole world and the reality of been forsaken by the Father, something He had never experienced. No words or emotions can capture what Jesus faced at that moment but praise God, He came through by the power of the Holy Ghost and got a name above all other names (Hebrews 1:3-4). Let us examine the story of Job today and see what the Lord has for us in it. The Bible says that God allowed the devil to attack Job’s character and health (Job 1:12; Job 2:6). During this time, Job lost all of his wealth and was struck with painful boils from his foot to the crown of his head. When his friends came to see him, they could not utter a word for seven da

The Spirit of the Lord

Image
But truly I am full of power by the spirit of the Lord, and of judgment, and might, to declare his transgression unto Jacob and Israel his sin. ~ Micah 3:8 The word repentance is less spoken of in the Christian circle today, and whenever it is, it is with flippancy. You only have to change your thinking (this is not wrong as the Greek word for repentance means this), and you are good to go. The word repentance goes much further than this. If John the Baptist said just that, I do not believe he would have done well preparing the way for the Lord. Just like in the day of John the Baptist, until there is sincere preaching of repentance, I believe we will not have true revival.  Sadly, the church expects people to repent when they do not know what they are to repent. A cliche sermon on repentance goes thus: “There are blessings from God that you can not access until you repent of your sin” This is not wrong, but it’s beginning to sound like repentance is just a means to get blessings from

In the fullness of Time

Image
But when the fulness of time came, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, to redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoptions as sons ~ Galatians 4:4-5 There is time and season for everything under the heaven (Ecclesiastes 3:1). A pattern in the relationship of God with man is this: God gives a promise to man but does not fulfill it immediately. It takes time for God to prepare man and the event around Him for fulfillment. The time of preparation might be for a while, but God will surely fulfill his promise ( Habakkuk 2:3 ). Put it this way, it will tarry until the appointed time but will not pass. Let us take the case study of when man fell into the bondage of sin (Genesis 3). After man sinned, God laid out to man the promise of redemption (Genesis 3:15). Before the fulfillment, however, there was a long period of waiting. What happened during this waiting time, and what is it that we can learn from it? Two things happen during this waitin
